GOV. OTTI VOWS TO REVIVE ABSU AS VISITATION PANEL SUBMITS REPORT
Abia state governor , Dr. Alex Otti has vowed to revive Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) and turn it to a citadel of excellence in learning, research and administration.
Governor Otti was speaking when he received the report of the Full Visitation Panel to Abia State University Uturu. According to the governor, the panel was set up to confront and eliminate whatever constitutes a threat to the vision of turning the university into a world class institution.
"We had set up this Full Visitation Panel to undertake a robust study of the systems and structures at ABSU, evaluate how they align with international best practices, and return to us with a comprehensive report that would direct what we do next in terms of investments, and policy formulation — in collaboration with the relevant agencies and partners.
"What we ultimately seek to achieve is to rebuild ABSU into a citadel of excellence in learning, research and administration. We want to frontally confront and eliminate whatever constitutes a threat to our vision of turning the University into a world class institution; one that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with its peers across the world on all the indices that matter in University education.
Governor Otti who assured that he would painstakingly look at the findings and recommendations of the panel expressed optimism that the excellent work done by the panel would be helpful in the administration’s quest to return ABSU to its former glory.
"It is my expectation that the recommendations and insights contained in the report put together by the Panel will help us to achieve our goal of robust institutional transformation in the University through the support and cooperation of all the stakeholders.
"My promise is that ABSU shall witness a great rebirth under our watch. Staff of the University shall avail the right support to improve themselves and become better equipped for the very important assignment of shaping the future of our young ones. We shall also make impactful."
The governor thanked the Chairman and members of the Visitation Panel for the timely completion of their assignment.
"I am quite satisfied that so much was committed in terms of efforts and experience to get the job done.
I want to specially appreciate the very distinguished Panelists for the immense sacrifices made over the course of this assignment, spending long hours on travels, site visitations, stakeholder engagements, review of documents and other responsibilities relevant to the successful completion of the Panel’s work. "
Presenting the report earlier, the Chairman of the Panel, Prof Steve Okorodudu said the great work done by the Panel can only yield fruits when the recommendations are studied and implemented. He thanked the governor for the opportunity given them to serve.
"The report we are presenting is the result of thorough research, extensive interviews, and diligent peer review sessions, thereby ensuring its factual accuracy and verifiability. We hope that the contents of this Full Visitation Panel Report will justify your expectations. Your Excellency, this Visitation Panel Report is a prima facie document that would require your further executive evaluation. For this reason, I am not authorized to discuss specific observations, findings, or recommendations at this juncture."
