Lagos State Government Reinforces Legality Of Speed Limits, Urges Public Compliance

The Lagos State Government has addressed public concerns over the enforcement of speed limits, reaffirming the legal foundation for the regulations and stressing the importance of adherence to ensure road safety.

Speaking on the matter, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, pointed to Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018), which empowers the state to impose penalties on motorists who exceed the designated speed limits.

Osiyemi further clarified that the Ministry of Transportation is the sole authority responsible for the design, size, and color of traffic signs in Lagos, ensuring that they meet international standards and are consistent across the state.

Addressing rumours surrounding the speed limit enforcement cameras, the Commissioner urged the public to disregard false information. He explained that the cameras were installed following thorough studies to assess their necessity in specific locations, with plans for further installation in other areas after additional reviews. The primary goal, he emphasized, is to enhance the safety of both commuters and motorists.

For any further inquiries or clarifications, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation encourages the public to visit its official website, social media platforms, or contact relevant traffic authorities.
